Blake Layman is a musician from Charlottesville, Virginia, where he works on both furniture and songs. Layman’s music is peopled with seemingly unremarkable things: a walnut hanging from a tree, an overheated truck on the side of a highway; a brief greeting from a neighbor. In the world of these songs, even such unhistorical moments deserve—and have— their own histories.
