Listening to Constellations — the latest album from the Burlington, Vermont-based indie rock group Clever Girls — feels like settling in for a powerfully compelling 1 a.m. performance at a sparsely filled and increasingly hazy bar. In their more restrained moments, the songs provide vibrant snapshots of a sort of quiet sadness, like the feelings that might get pushed down for an otherwise smiling photo while struggling with inarticulate uncertainty about life and its direction.
