Ho99o9 have always struck me as a bit of an oddity in the world of alternative music. I think this is partially by design and partially due to timing. Here is what I mean: They’re a punk band who expresses themselves through industrial noise and hip hop. That is the design part. They aim for you to find them unusual, confrontationally so. Nothing wrong there. Lots of people who listen to punk rock also like hip hop, and vice versa. See, Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Whole Wheat Bread, Old City, etc. … Here is where things get interesting; Ho99o9 is not just a rock band that raps, or a rap group that rocks, they’re a group who specifically drops bars over trap beats.
