Purgatory are back two years after their first release, Cold Side of Reality, returns with a mammoth metal record. The band has been busy through the years with four EPs and a split with No Victory. The sound emerges from an unholy merging of beatdown, metallic hardcore, and death metal. The band refers to their sound as “Midwest Street Metal”. That description explains the sound and the lyrics. These lyrics ain’t about any abstract or fantasy metal trips. The echoes of pain and struggle from the streets are heard here. Loudly. Purgatory cites bands like Cold As Life, Stigmata, and Merauder mixed with the songs of (especially) Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, and Deicide.
