Society is a machine. It is not a perfect construct, but a constant work in progress whose shape is determined by its constituent masses. Over the past ten days, there has been a sweeping groundswell of support for change, triggered by the death of George Floyd on the streets of Minneapolis, and a recent spotlight on shooting of unarmed jogger Ahmaud Arbery by a father and son in Georgia on February 23. With President Donald Trump refusing his condemnation, the problem was clear – that the unlawful deaths of black men in America were too often deemed unworthy of punishment.
