Sum 41 and nothing,nowhere. team up for new suicide awareness song
Sum 41 and Canadian alt.rapper nothing,nowhere. have collaborated on a new version of the punk heroes’ song Catching Fire for Mental Health Awareness Month. The song was written by frontman Deryck Whibley about his wife, Ari Whibley’s suicide attempt. To go with the song, filmmaker Josh Asher (who directed the clip for Sum 41’s Never There) has made a video, in which fans of the band from around the globe tell their own stories of loss. “Writing this song was cathartic for me in dealing with my emotions for the first time about almost losing my wife to suicide,” says Deryck. “When I first played it for her, it was the beginning of us having an open conversation about what she went through.
