Ann Beretta is an anthemic punk band from Richmond, VA that has been around for decades (starting in 1996). RISE is their first release of new material since 2003 (they re-recorded older songs for their 2018 release, Old Scars, New Blood), which serves as one hell of a welcome back party. Ann Beretta excels at writing hooks. Each song serves as a constant sing-along in both the verses and choruses. Catchy is a huge understatement, as these songs stick in your head and stay there; forcing you to (happily) listen to the album again. The songs are simple, bouncy and memorable, making for an excellent combination. Ann Beretta plays with laid-back energy, which is a bit of a departure from their peers that play with a more “in-your-face” style. Listening to RISE reminds me of the tortoise from ...
