In Dan Ozzi’s book Sellout, Mark Hoppus responded to the idea that blink-182’s popularity was “ruining the scene” by saying, “I want my music on the radio. I love our band and I want everybody to hear us. I want everybody to come to the party.” Still, blink-182 would learn that playing the game of mainstream success means making compromises you don’t always want to make.
