New England’s War Criminal rolled out their latest EP God Failed Me a few days ago and it’s a pretty solid revival of ’90s metallic hardcore along the lines of All Out War or Chokehold. I know a lot of people want to talk about Converge whenever metalcore or metallic hardcore comes up, but there are no pretensions towards post-rock and noise rock on War Criminal’s new EP. You do get some skronky death metal chords, but that just adds the knuckle dusting furry of it all. There are zero attempts to pad out their sound or present themselves anything other than a whirlwind of fists, teeth, and evil glares.
