Odd Doll Records, a women-owned Manitoba record label and the first of its kind in the province, has launched, announcing Franco-Manitoban Afropop and soul artist Kelly Bado as its first signing. Bado’s cross-cultural, genre-blurring sound sets the tone for a label intent on defying expectations and embracing unconventional collaborations. Odd Doll Records, helmed by Elise Roller and Claire Boning, shines a spotlight on women’s ownership in a field historically dominated by men.
