Nightwish bassist/co-vocalist Marko Hietala has made a surprise announcement that he is leaving both the band and his “public life”. In a lengthy statement posted on social media, the musician explains that a combination of disillusion with the music industry and chronic depression have led him to make the decision – and while he needs to step away for now as it would be “dangerous for me and the people around me if I continue”, he doesn’t think that he’ll “be gone for good”.
