It’s always dangerous for a band to take influence from themselves—for one, you can get so far up your own butthole that you’re halfway to a colonoscopy. Also, importantly, you can become stagnant and hit a wall where innovation dies and “pleasing fans” becomes the most important thing. And, hey, as a fan of Born Of Osiris and many others like them, I appreciate a little pandering from time to time.
