Joyce Manor’s Barry Johnson has talked about Weezer‘s influence on his band since pretty much day one, and over a decade into their career, Weezer tapped them to open part of their 2023 “Indie Rock Roadtrip!” tour, during which Barry joined Weezer on stage to play their ’90s classic “You Gave Your Love To Me Softly,” which Joyce Manor had also covered years earlier. But their collaboration/friendship didn’t stop there. In addition to both being tapped to perform on John Mulaney’s Netflix talk show, Barry joined Weezer during a half-hour-long Spotify session celebrating the 30th anniversary of Weezer’s 1994 debut Blue Album.
