Sylvie Kreusch – ‘Comic Trip’ [Album Review]

Antwerp-based artist Sylvie Kreusch has released her latest album, Comic Trip, following on the heels of her 2021 debut album, Montbray, a dark, melodic, sensual album laced with hints of tenderness. Comic Trip sees her diverting in a new direction, one tinted with country flavours. Featuring eleven tracks, Comic Trip begins with the low-slung “Sweet Love (coconut),” riding a loose crunching rhythm topped by a sparkling piano, strumming guitars, and Kreusch’s soft, slightly breathy vocals, imbuing the lyrics with dreamy, voluptuous colours. Speaking subjectively, highlights on the album include the title track, which conjures up suggestions of The B-52’s with its vibrant vocals exuding euphoric energy.
