Growing Stone, the solo project of Taking Meds vocalist/guitarist Skylar Sarkis, has announced a new album, Death of a Momma’s Boy, due June 28 via Near Mint (pre-order). The album was recorded and produced by Skylar’s Taking Meds bandmate James Palko (who also makes music as Jimmy Montague), and the first taste is “The Keep.” Inspired by the ornately decorated Ridgewood bar of the same name, it’s a folky, slowcore-ish song with some great horn lines, and Skylar has just as much a knack for this kind of stuff as he does for Taking Meds’ louder punk and alt-rock. “Punk was the reason that I got into music in the first place, but I think singer-songwriter stuff is the reason that I’ve connected with it as deeply as I have,” he says. “I’ve alway...
