On the same day America endured a horrific terrorist attack that took down the WTC and killed nearly 3000 men and women, Slayer released their infamous record, God Hates Us All. At 6:46 a.m. MDT, it did feel like god hated us all that terrible day 20 years ago. The prophetic lines from track two, “Disciple,” sum it up: “Pessimist, terrorist targeting the next mark … Global chaos feeding on hysteria.” The events of that day highlighted the reason why guitarist Kerry King named this record God Hates Us All. King wrote most of the lyrics and half the music on this album, creating a statement record which railed against a world enslaved by organized religion, politics, and hate.
