Album Review: Watain – The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain

There’s a special place in Hell for those who’ll enjoy Watain’s new album, The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain, myself included. The black metal scoundrels from Sweden have bestowed upon us their seventh studio album, and have not lost a step; if anything, their craftsmanship is growing more refined. The band’s ability to innovate within the gated black metal methodology is showcased prominently in this release. Their ten-track opus spawns with a relentless hyper-tempo buzzsaw titled “Ecstasies In Night Infinite”, where they unconventionally drop 808s to intensify blast beat sections.
