Album Review: Near Death Condition – Ascent From the Mundane

Near Death Condition dared to probe the murky crypts within their beings and produced Ascent From the Mundane—the band’s first new album since 2014’s Evolving Towards Extinction.  This 9-track death metal séance invokes tortured souls from warring ethereal realms, conveying spiritual turmoil. Instrumentally, Patrick Bonvin (guitars, drum programming, synthesizers) and Tony Petrocelly (bass) create a sludge-filled pit to wade through using thick down-tuned riffs, daunting harmonies, and barreling drum beats. Bonvin’s guitar leads contribute to the ceremonious atmosphere with lava-like textures similar to Trey Azagthoth (Morbid Angel).
