Monuments must have chuckled at the ironic title for their fourth record. While the quality of the U.K. band’s previous three albums remained fairly static (and solid), lead guitarist John Browne and bassist Adam Swam have been the only constant members throughout—though In Stasis does feature the very welcome return of original drummer Mike Malyan. While I doubt the group enjoy reflecting or reading about perceived revolving membership doors, the reality is stasis is the last word I would use to describe Monuments. Consistent, excellent, fun – sure, but not static. All that said, the addition of new vocalist Andy Cizek and yet another high-concept record—In Stasis is an album centered around the idea of being in a power struggle with yourself—proves to be the most winning combination yet ...
