Album Review: Mizmor- Wit’s End

Wit’s End by the blackened doom metal project Mizmor begins more like a post-rock movement. Slowly stroked clean guitars are accompanied by an analog sample of a man talking negatively about God and religion, truth and science. It sounds like an early Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Mogwai album, which sets the tone for Mizmor’s sacrilegious take on spiritual metal music. The heavy low-end guitars and wretched vocals take over the piece, inching ever-slowly upward towards a climax. The rhythm section trudges with accuracy and feeling. Then a tremolo-picked guitar is introduced and the movement crescendos. Over the first of just two tracks, Mizmor creates a side of an album out of very few parts. The pace is thoughtful and patient.
