Know/Suffer are a death metal-infused hardcore band from El Paso, Texas, whose music is both brutal and introspective. Musically, the band are heavy, with double-bass drum action; thick, distorted guitars; and even the odd chord thrown in to keep the listeners on their toes. It’s quite the rush. But, what separates this band from others playing in this particular sandbox are the lyrics of vocalist Toast William. Instead of going for tough-guy posturing, his lyrics turn inward, shooting out poetic verses which detail personal and political struggles. His vocal style is earnest and yearning, which eschews the typical vocal tropes in this kind of music for something a bit more human and real.
