Album Review: Ian Sweet- Show Me How You Disappear

You’re suddenly thrown into an array of noise and ambiguous sounds. Then Ian Sweet’s voice and guitar contextualize the first track “My Favorite Cloud” on her new album Show Me How you Disappear. While the sounds are immaculate, dream-like and laced with sweetness, it’s the layered, fuzzy vocals that really do it. Then it all clarifies, emerging from the static to reveal a simple song beneath. Sweet’s singing leaves something to be desired, but the production does enough with her vocals to make them interesting. The lyrics are clarified in bursts. “Drink the Lake” has a lo-fi beat before drums come in to intersect the shoegaze-inspired instrumentation.
