The book on metalcore has been written and examined for long enough that most of us can almost know what to expect when we press play on a new band or album. Sure, we may not know whether we’re hearing from the Holy Books of Converge, Killswitch Engage, or Botch, but we can often expect to hear some variations on established forms and functions. That not to say metalcore is stale, as there are quite a few new bands finding new ways to honor the past and/or skinning the scene-core cat. Leave it to one of the buzziest UK bands to set a new standard in the style. To be fair from the start, Heriot employ a variety of sounds that feel quite at home.
