Burning Witches are flying through releases like seasons, as The Witch of the North is their fourth album in five years. I’ll admit that while I enjoyed the Swiss act’s sophomore record Hexenhammer so much that we featured it in our The New What’s Next feature series, last year’s Dance with the Devil didn’t quite recapture the highs of that first impression. Some of that is not entirely surprising after welcoming in a new vocalist Laura Guldemond and lead guitarist Larissa Ernst. Developing chemistry and establishing some continuity takes time, but that’s especially true when you play music so intricate and harmonically demanding as heavy power metal.
