There’s something to be said about having a formula and sticking to it, which is the main play for any given neo-whatever revival band. However, there is also something to be said about branching out and trying new sounds still rooted in what you’ve done. Right On, the third studio album by the Nashville based Birmingham roots rock band Banditos, finds its strength in the latter. Right On sparkles with moments of extreme brilliance and energy. The horn swells in “Here Tonight.” The Southern rock shuffle of the title track, groovy bass/banjo interplay in “The Waves,” the almost R&B-like “Said and Done,” and the slow burning old-time New Orleans jazz ballad “Ozone” all lend a unique spice to the overall flavor of the album.
