glass beach have announced the second glass beach album, plastic death, due January 19 via Run For Cover (pre-order). It was produced by Will Yip, and it includes recent single “the CIA,” as well as the just-released “rare animal.” Like “the CIA,” “rare animal” is really far-out, maximalist stuff that suggests glass beach are really going for it on this album. It starts out with dizzying art pop rhythms and melodies that would fit on a Dirty Projectors album, and about halfway through, it explodes into a scream-sung, gang vocal-fueled catharsis that’ll rival your favorite post-hardcore band in intensity.
