The Shelter People were an American rock band formed in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2016. The group consisted of guitarist/vocalist Dakota Hurley, bassist and backup vocalist Gavon Burch and percussionist, Justin Dennis. Their style drew mostly from the blues rock bands of the late ’60s and early ’70s. After releasing their self-titled debut EP, the band took on a tour in April and May of ’18 supporting The Sword, during their Used Future tour. After that tour, The Shelter People set out to record their debut LP. They recorded the album twice with Tulsa producer Fayez Mansour, but it was ultimately scrapped to start again from scratch.
