Album Review: Kaleidobolt – This One Simple Trick

If you’re anything like myself, you may have had a phase when you were younger of believing you were born in the wrong decade, and there is no longer any good, bone-crushing hard rock coming out anymore. However, at some point, you always find out that you’re wrong because the Nordic countries are definitely still producing good hard rock. This One Simple Trick, the latest from Finnish power trio Kaleidobolt, is a testament to this fact. Opening with “Fantastic Corps,” Kaleidobolt instantly launches into a monster groove laced with intricate vocal harmonies and solos reminiscent of Bach fugues which segues directly into the second track, “I Should Be Running,” which gets a bit surfy in a Black Sabbath on vacation at Santa Monica Pier kind of way. “Merja-Liisa” contains the makings of a bar...
