Black Pumas have released a terrifically ’70s-inspired live cover of “Sugar Man” by Rodriguez. The video follows the cover’s release as a Spotify single earlier this year and precedes a long stretch of tour dates for Black Pumas. The video captures captures Black Pumas in a ’70s variety show setting with Piet Mondrian style primary color squares hanging behind pedestaled, backup vocalists. In it, Black Pumas gives their take on Rodriguez’s signature tune. Rodriguez fell to obscurity in much of the world after a career in the ’70s. 2012 documentary Searching For Sugar Man helped renew his popularity.
