A Ronin is (well, was) a wandering samurai without a clan, without a lord. Americans erroneously romanticize the lone warrior through a Western lens, while negating the Japanese culture’s adherence to duty to the group. Americans lay attributes of a stoic, individual hero upon ronin. But in fact, ronin were filled with disgrace. They lived to serve their clan. So, when rendered a solitary man, samurais traveled with rage and shame. Vocalist Mike Ledet has taken this paradigm, correctly, and created a tale of a vengeful ronin unleashing his inner hate upon the world.
