With a tenth album landing at the end of April, it just so happens that the Dropkick Murphys’ seventh full-length, Going Out in Style, turns 10 today. A concept album telling the tale of a fictional Irish-American by the name of Cornelius Larkin; musically, it offers more of what’s come before: rousing, rocking Celtic-flavoured punk, replete with burly vocals and anthemic choruses. That it’s similar to other releases is no bad thing, though: to those who dig it, it’s a winning formula – and a tad addictive. And there’s variety in this formula, too, thanks to all of its elements, and never knowing quite what’s coming next, keeps the listener guessing. Will it be a mandolin, a whistle or bagpipes?
