There is a thin line between elation and anguish, the gist of Smooth Brain’s recent single “Derealization.” The song sounds quite cheerful; it’s very bright sounding, charged up with some rather catchy pop-punk hooks. On the other hand, the song addresses the topic of dissociative disorders with no filters or hesitation. It’s all very personal to lead singer Izzy Gunn. For the last couple of years, she has been experiencing her existential crisis where she can’t stop considering the meaning of life and how it’s all just here for a rather short time.
