Moonspell’s Hermitage might be the most musically sophisticated record they’ve released to date. Hermitage drops February 26 via Napalm Records. The sound and scope of this record is massive. Cinema and tapestry drape over it. There’s a sonic maturity here that few other bands have achieved that reaches out beyond the perimeters of heavy metal into something a lot larger. Moonspell’s musical picture just expanded into something much bigger. Moonspell have figured out when to rock and when to pull back and allow the music and lyrics to tell their respective stories. That’s a fine line that not everyone can grasp ahold of. Hermitage is better parts prog and metal, toying with notions of Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden alike.
