The Punk Site is saddened to learn of the death of Toots Hibbert, the frontman of the pioneering ska and reggae group Toots And The Maytals, at the age of 77. The band were amongst the first the popularise ska and reggae music, including ‘Do The Reggay‘, that was the first to mention the term, and tracks such as ‘Pressure Drop‘ and ‘Monkey Man‘ that are familiar to many from their adoption by many punk and ska bands. The death of the singer was announced in a statement from his family.: “It is with the heaviest of hearts to announce that Frederick Nathaniel ‘Toots’ Hibbert passed away peacefully tonight, surrounded by his family at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.
