For a place such as Alaska, you really have to actually see it to believe it. We’ve all seen it on television and depicted in films, but there’s nothing like the real thing. The nonprofit organization SUSTAIN MUSIC & NATURE recently took on an expansive project of putting together collaborations with skilled composer-musicians and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service – Alaska Region to highlight many of the state’s wildlife refuges. The project showcases 13 of the state’s 16 refuges in an eleven-minute short film featuring a wholly original score. These refuges are very much worth highlighting, not just for their beauty, but because they continue to be at high risk, thanks to climate change and the political pressure of the petroleum industry.
