Dance-pop music can be a pretty elementary space, but every once in a while, an artist like Moonchild Sanelly comes along. She no doubt specializes in dance-pop, but not in a rudimentary way. The South African vocalist and songwriter is far too experimental and musically courageous to be lumped into the Top 40 space. She creates her own style of ghetto-funk, with blasting beats and musical experimentation. In describing her signature sound, she has referred to it as “future ghetto-funk.” Within this musical style is a strong, vigorous message promoting female sexual empowerment.
