Edmonton’s Winspear Centre got folky on Saturday night, as Texas’ own Shakey Graves graced the stage with his bluesy tunes of life and love. Leading the night with Winnipeg’s Begonia. The Canadian singer-songwriter strutted onto the stage with a smile and her bubbly personality. Displaying a soulful opening performance, Begonia harnessed her audience’s attention, with vocal runs that could give even Adele a run for her money. Sharing with the crowd that she’s a Manitoban and receiving a very welcoming response, Begonia sang songs of heartbreak, redemption and an infamous hotdog stand, rounding out her set nicely with an upbeat pop tune that had the audience clapping to the beat and cheering for more, solidifying the opinion that she’s a true musical diamond in the Canadian rough.
