Review: Examine – ‘Blessed’

Repping a new breed of NYHC, Examine drop their second full length since 2018 on Dead City Records. Three years later, Examine hone their sound, mastered by NY legend Alan Douches. The five-piece offers eight new tracks. Phil Bloom’s drums act as the foundation, controlling the tempo and pit inducing time changes. The NYHC bounce is ever-present, balanced with fast parts and breakdowns. The riffs conjure up NYHC very quickly a la Madball, Killing Time, and Sick Of It All. The vocals of Sean FInley are clean and projected, not growled or scratchy (like those three bands). Add this aspect to guitar work and staggered rhythms, and Examine are eliciting memories of Fahrenheit 451 and Burn.
