Interview: Epica’s Simone Simons Soars on New Album, ‘Omega’

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, nobody’s 2020 went as planned. But it seems like Epica might have gotten luckier than most. In spite of all the recent lockdowns and travel bans, the band have not only managed to complete their first album in five years – Omega, the band’s eighth album overall, due out February 26 on Nuclear Blast – they have also written and recorded the most expansive, and, dare I say, epic music of their career.  Omega features a full symphony orchestra, a first for an Epica studio album and a considerably important broadening of their sound, considering they are known as one of the foremost symphonic metal bands.
