The single delivers another shift in the band’s fearlessly innovative iconoclastic art punk that is tinged with bleak humour and Brechtian glamour. Recorded live and fully analogue, Jill fuses exuberant rock ’n roll with twisted 60’s garage and a synth-soaked glam rock refrain. Inspired by a Philip Larkin novel in which the shy young protagonist dreams up the perfect sister he never had, only to conflate her with a real person.
