From Central Europe come Like We Are, a quartet who have secured a swell of attention across their native Austria since their inception in 2020. Their new EP is debut collection, Elevate, which addresses a mix of pertinent real-world issues, from domestic violence to loneliness, and the arc of emotions felt coming out of the pandemic. Opener “Who I Am” is a display of cascading modern metalcore, melodic in nature, with the band’s willingness for a patient and thoughtful build up heightening the sense of anticipation on show. Throughout the EP, Like We Are nods to a wide range of influences, there are splashes of ’00s alternative rock and even some pop-punk notes shining through on “This Time,” and these flickers make for choruses that are infectious in both their energy and execution...
