A decade ago I used to exclusively hang out with people who only listened to punk rock… and for the most part they couldn’t stop talking about how much they hated it. All I seemed to hear was about how derivative every band was, how stale they sounded, how everyone sounded the same, and how much they hated going to shows and seeing all the poser there. “Why can’t more bands be like The Buzzcocks or The Clash,” I would hear as an oft-uttered groan of dissatisfaction.
