Canada’s Trench 壕 are declaring the future of beatdown metalcore is now, and they’re doing so with authority. Their new chest-beating EP, Encased in Chrome, will leave you seeing stars and shaking your head clear. And its brutality goes hand in hand with the label releasing it: appropriately named New Damage Records. The title track commences this six-song assault with a brief industrial intro which then gives way to a double-time hammer beat and ferocious riff. As the instrumentals roar, we’re also immediately introduced to vocalist Jay Breen, who’s voice is a cross between Todd Jones (Nails) and Steve Tucker (Morbid Angel).
