Album Review: Sculpture Club – Worth

Sculpture Club, the post-punk darlings of Salt Lake City, have returned with a newly realized sound. Their upcoming LP, Worth, abandons their previous staticky progression in favor of softer edges and dreamier whimsy. You can clearly hear the inspiration from bands like The Cure, but it isn’t simply a clone. Rather than being a cheap imitation in the way that many revival bands are, this record actually sounds like it walked straight out of 1983. In fact, if you heard this on the radio or found it in a vinyl shop, you’d probably think it was an undiscovered gem from way back when.  In a time when pop culture’s entered an ‘80s and ‘90s reinsurance, Sculpture Club deserves a comfortable spot in the zeitgeist.
