Album Review: Ombiigizi – Sewn Back Together

Ombiigizi are able to prove that you don’t need to play at a high volume to sound loud. The music is quiet on the outset, but there is a lot going on in the background that gives them a full and powerful feel. They paint sonic landscapes with their voices and instruments, creating an atmosphere of beauty in 30 minutes. Sewn Back Together is a debut collaboration between Adam Sturgeon (Status/Non-Status) and Daniel Monkman (Zoon) that uses the album to explore their Indigenous culture musically and lyrically. Ombiigizi is a difficult band to describe, as they pack a lot into relatively short songs (only three are over four minutes).
