Album Review: Ice Nine Kills – ‘Welcome to Horrorwood: The Silver Scream 2’

Whoever said sequels never live up to the original clearly never met Massachusetts-based band, Ice Nine Kills. The band combines horror and music in a more coherent and theatrical way on the 14-track follow up of their 2018 album, “The Silver Scream.” The singles gave fans a glimpse of “Welcome to Horrorwood: The Silver Scream 2” with songs like “Funeral Derangements” (Pet Sematary) and “Rainy Day” (Resident Evil). There is no one stand-out track on the album, as they are all very well-put-together standalone songs. Each song is a stand-out track until the next song comes along. The title track is the only song that is not based off of a horror movie, including “Opening Night,” which is a spoken word track akin to the opening of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. “Welcome to Horrorwood” continues th...
