Album Review: Halestorm – Back From The Dead

After 25 years, it’d be hard for any band to find new shades of itself. For Halestorm, who received accolades for now decade-old tracks like “Love Bites (And So Do I),” and who have put out everything from live songs to a covers EP, this is especially difficult. On the band’s latest, Back From The Dead, the group don’t reinvent itself, nor try anything new. However, the record shows them leaning into its original strength more than usual: the sonorous, in-tune voice of singer and guitarist Lizzy Hale. On the title track, the band dig their heels in and stir up familiar rock noise not dissimilar from Soundgarden’s “Spoonman” (a snaky plodding guitar line here, a bombastic drum riff there).
