Album Review: Forty Feet Tall – A Good Distraction

Records that confuse me in a good way are few and far between, but A Good Distraction is one of those special releases that does just that. Forty Feet Tall refuse to write the same song twice, resulting in an eclectic record full of surprises. Much of the record feels like the crossroads of Queens Of The Stone Age, The Strokes, and Frank Carter And The Rattlesnakes. Big guitars and bigger hooks are the name of the game here, whether it’s the fast-paced punk of “Rain Machine”, the bluesy groove of “Cavalcade”, or the fuzzy post-punk of “Julian”. That’s not to mention the quieter moments that build to wonderful conclusions. In a lot of ways, A Good Distraction is a record that shouldn’t work out.
