Album Review: Despise You – West Side Horizons

Siege have a lot to answer for; from the moment Drop Dead landed in the early part of the 1980s, a veritable atom bomb was set off for a whole new genre that came to be known as powerviolence. For the uninitiated, the genre is an even more dissonant and fast version of hardcore punk, leaving the likes of Black Flag, MDC, and Bad Brains in the dust, such is the level of intensity and ferocity. The 1990s in particular was a boom time for the genre with a sheer plethora of bands such as Dropdead (named after Siege’s only release to date), Man is the Bastard, Capitalist Casualties, Spazz, The Locust, Infest ,and, of course, Despise You.
