Album Review: Den Der Hale – Harsyra

Den Der Hale, a relatively new Swedish group who describe their music as post-psych, are entrancing. Their debut album Harsyra—which is available now from Sound Effect Records—sounds like a surreal, nighttime journey across some dusty wilderness that’s marked by a bit of greenery, a single, snaking highway, and a couple of distant buildings. Eventually—when, like towards the end of “Armoured/Endurance,” Den Der Hale unfurl a mellowed but majestically grandiose crescendo—some seemingly otherworldly, shimmering monument comes into view upon this metaphorical terrain.  As though catapulting listeners onto that highway, the tracks prove grounded by dusty atmosphere that courses through Harsyra, but the simultaneous swagger is just remarkable.
